Aftercare
After your treatment you will be given some personalised aftercare advice. Below is some general aftercare advice for your aromatherapy and reflexology treatment.
Aromatherapy and reflexology can be a wonderfully relaxing treatments and can affect people in different ways. Most people experience a sense of relaxation and wellbeing, whereas others can feel energised and balanced.
General aftercare advice.
Some people can experience a ‘healing response’ where the body begins to release toxins and waste as it begins to heal itself. This effect should only last up to 24 hours and these symptoms are only temporary. You may find you do not experience any of these.
Typical symptoms are:
- Increased thirst
- Low energy
- Feeling tired
- Emotional
- Sweating
- Feeling hot or cold
- Nauseous or dizzy
- Headaches
After this you should feel a general sense of wellbeing and balance. However, to reduce any after effects you are advised to:
Relax- avoid any exertion for the next few hours. Light exercise the following day will help to get the blood flowing to support healing, and help the removal of any toxins.
Keep hydrated- drink plenty of water after your treatment. This will also aid the removal of any toxins and reduce the risk of headaches. Avoid caffeine- don’t forget to help yourself to a herbal teabag on your way out.
Avoid stimulants- alcohol, caffeine and smoking for 24
Eat a light meal.

Aromatherapy
The above advice is the same for aromatherapy massage but there are some extra precautions and advice.
Because the essential oils are being absorbed into the skin, we recommend you do not bath or shower after your treatment. This means the benefits of the oils can continue to work long after your treatment with me is finished.
If you do experience any unusual skin reactions like a rash or burning you can wash the skin with a carrier oil (like sunflower oil) or milk. And seek advice from your GP or phone the NHS helpline 111. You can also contact me for support.
Some essential oils are photo-toxic- this means that if you go out into the sunlight or under a UV bed, you will burn. You will be advised if photo-toxic oils have been used and this will be discussed before your treatment if you are likely to be exposed to the sun.
Remember: I am here to support you so if you experience anything unusual please contact me and in the case of an emergency, call 999.
