Essential Oil of the Month: Immortelle

Oil of the month: Immortelle (Helichrysum italicum)

This month I had to include Helichrysum italicum, sometimes known as Everlasting or Immortelle essential oil. Grown in the Mediterranean, you’ll often find the essential oil is from Corsica. The yellow blossoms are steam distilled and it produces a herbaceous, earthy, honey-like aroma. Some people find the aroma unpleasant, but it can be blended with citrus oils, Lavender, Chamomile, Geranium and Rose and is often best used in a blend. Helichrysum is known for its anti-inflammatory benefits, therefore good for use on muscular aches and pains. It has amazing healing properties, being anti-allergenic, antiseptic, fungicidal and astringent, so great for the skin. It is calming, and uplifting, and can be used for depression and stress. Helichrysum can also be a bit of a tonic, and help those feeling lethargic or exhausted. It may help boost the circulation, and also be helpful to the digestive system. Helichrysum is thought to be generally safe (diluted and not taken internally). Helichrysum is not a cheap oil, but this is usually an indication that a little will go a long way.
