Essential Oil of the month: Neroli- (Citrus aurantium)
Distilled from the flowering blossoms of the orange tree, (both bitter orange and Petitgrain are from the same tree) Neroli essential oil is a delicate oil with a light, fresh, floral, citrusy fragrance.
You can often find Neroli in skin care as it can help rejuvenate skin and reduce fine lines. It is particularly good for sensitive skins and stimulates new cell growth. It is said to be beneficial for mature and dry skin.
As Neroli is uplifting and (I like to think) a sunny oil that evokes feelings of Spring, it is good for reducing stress and anxiety, and can be a very good oil to use with someone who is depressed. It can bring about feelings of euphoria. It is also a good oil to use with someone who is in shock or suffering from grief.
Neroli is highly concentrated so a little goes a long way. It is also one of the more expensive essential oils so you do want to use it sparingly.
You can make a face oil by mixing in a carrier like Primrose or Rosehip. Use 4-6 drops in 30ml of carrier. Shake well and use as a face oil. If Neroli is too expensive, you can use Petitgrain as this has similar properties. My favourite blend is bitter orange, Petitigrain and Neroli.
