Essential Oil of the Month: Jasmine absolute (Jasminum grandiflorum)
The weather has been beautiful so I have chosen Jasmine absolute for May.
Jasmine is one of my favourite (of many) oils to use. It has such an intense, rich, sweet smell. This is due to the fact the oil is extracted by solvent extraction. This results in a more intense scent. Beautifully fragrant, the flowers are picked at night when the aroma is at the strongest. It takes a lot of flowers to make a small amount of oil, which is why a little goes a long way. Jasmine oil is great for the skin. It can balance out the skin’s sebum (your skin’s natural oil) making it great for skin products. It can also boost cell renewal and can protect from free radicals. Jasmine is good for muscle pain as it contains antispasmodics and reduces inflammation. Because of this it has also been used in childbirth as it acts as a pain reliever and strengthens contractions. A reminder though, not to use during pregnancy and seek advice from a qualified aromatherapist if using Jasmine oil during child birth. Always dilute with a suitable carrier and never ingest.
